Signs Your Washer Drain Pump Needs Attention
- Standing water left in the drum
- Washer stops mid-cycle with a drain error code
- Grinding or humming noise during the drain
- Clothes come out soaking wet
- Water leaking from the front bottom of the washer
Many drain problems start with a small object caught in the pump or filter: a sock, coins, hair ties or lint. We check the pump filter, drain hose, standpipe and pump motor before replacing anything, because a clear blockage costs less than a new pump.
If the pump motor has failed, we install a new one, check the hose connections for leaks and run a full drain and spin cycle to confirm the repair. Both front-load and top-load washers are covered.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Our Drain Pump Repair Process
Drain the water safely. We empty the drum and protect the floor before opening the washer.
Check for blockages. The filter, hose and pump are inspected for debris first.
Test the pump. If the pump is not getting power or will not run, we find out why.
Replace and verify. After installing a new pump, we run a cycle to confirm it drains and spins.
Washer Drain Pump FAQs
On many front-load washers there is a small access door at the bottom front. Put towels down first because water will come out. If the washer still will not drain after cleaning it, the pump or control may be at fault.
A slow or weak pump can drain some water but not enough for a full spin. A worn belt, bad lid switch or unbalanced load can also stop the high-speed spin.
Most drain pump replacements are done in about an hour once the part is on hand.
